Our Cattle

We love our cows! Nearly all of our cows were born and raised on our family farm. We have generations of the same blood line and enjoy seeing the legacy continue in our cattle. We utilize rotation grazing for our cow herds. That means we give them a small area of the field to eat and move them to another part of the field often. Sometimes we move up to six times a day, other times we move once in a four day period. How often really depends on what stage of beef production cycle we are in and what our goal is for grazing on the field. Our grass finishing herd grazes through a variety of forages throughout the year: winter annuals from the late fall to early spring, summer annuals from mid summer to fall and permanent pastures when the annual fields aren’t ready to graze. They receive lots of sunshine and as much grass and water as they can handle. They are free of grains, antibiotics, and synthetic hormones. We do offer free choice mineral and salt to all of our cattle.

Our Chickens

Chickens have been a fun endeavor we began in 2012. All of our chickens are pasture raised. They are on grass and picking at seeds, clover, and bugs. We move the chicken coop about three to four times a week for the layer hens and daily for the meat chickens to fresh areas of the farm. That guarantees a unique diet and produces the golden yolk eggs and flavorful chicken that our customers love. A GMO free chicken feed is offered to them as well. It is milled locally by another family farm about 50 miles us.

Our Sheep

Our sheep are very similar to our cattle as being free of grains, antibiotics, and synthetic hormones. We rotate sheep, but less often than cattle, letting them roam larger areas of the farm. Our sheep are from a unique bree, katahdin, that has a hair coat instead of wool, so they are cooler in hot summer weather, and produce a more mild flavor in the meat. Our sheep are the definition of “free range” as they can travel across our farm to pick the best tasting bites of grass available. All of our lamb is born, raised, finished on our family farm.
